I’m running a workshop this June at The NSW Writers Centre. I used to teach there a lot – courses like: Seize The Moment, First Page to First Draft ( which I believe was the first to run over a whole year), Eros & The Divine …ah those were the days. Many changes of staff and programs later, it will be fun to be back among its hallowed and ghostly halls. If you have never been, it is a wonderful place to write – a heritage homestead set in the rolling park lands of Callan Park. Some of the writers groups formed during my workshops are still meeting there all these years later! So here’s the workshop blurb. Hope you can come!
SENSING THE MEMOIR
Evoking the senses is one of the keys to creating a successful memoir. Bringing your story alive with descriptive detail is what’s needed, but is not so easy to accomplish. Using guided meditation, visualization and creative mapping techniques, I will take you deep into sense memory, helping you to access the most vivid imagery of your life and transform it into powerful writing.Use meditative techniques to learn how to activate your narrator voice, find your storyline and develop the structural elements necessary to bring your memoir to life. Whether you want to write the whole of your life, a travel memoir, a food adventure, a story about pets, relationships, work, love, spirituality, reflect on some of life’s moments, or use it as a springboard into fiction or script, you can use this workshop to take you deep into the heart of your writing.
