How fortunate are we that all the writers of the world chose to put pen to paper and give the gift of their writing to us. Isn’t it extraordinary that new titles tables in bookshops are literally groaning under the weight of new books coming out; that even with all the grim predictions of the technological age that books would disappear, we seem to want them more than ever! Who are all these new writers with stories to tell? Chances are you will be one of them. Chances are you have toiled away year in year out and finally have something to show for it. We all know it’s not a easy road, a lonely occupation, it can even drive you mad. That’s why the company of fellow writers on the writing journey is so precious. When the writers work with become despondent about the task in front of them I remind them that in the end their writing is a gift. It’s not some terrible exam we must pass, some initiation rite we must endure to receive approval from the world. Writing is a gift that you can give to all who want to receive it. Writing is also a gift we give to ourselves that helps us understand who we are why we are here, where we are going.
