We all have the fantasy of getting away to write. Escaping to a room deep in the woods, catching a plane to a foriegn city where no one knows you, finding a bolt hole somewhere, anywhere, to concentrate solely on one thing: getting the words on the page. The trouble is if you have a love of writing in exotic locations as I do, how do you balance the time you need for getting to know the new culture you have just portaled into, with time spent hunkered down in your room. Recently I was lucky to have a three week writing residency funded by The Copyright Agency, at Maumauworks , an ubran artists and writers residence in the groovy suburb of Beyoglu. From this absolutely stunning location in the heart of Istanbul, I made a plan to come home with a finished story. But things didn’t quite work out that way. Read more here…
